Measuring of the time difference between two probability density waveforms

TO BE COMPLETED The first results indicated superluminal neutrino speeds which is simply incredible. When they where at a loss to explain this a question for help was publicized in the media. I became interested because I have experience in data analysis from the time I was involved in digital telemetry data transmitted via radio by a rocket stage to an earth station where this data is extracted from a radio signal that is contaminated by noise. In the above document their method of data analysis was explained . The first thing Inoticed was that this method introduced an incredible amount of noise. Normally data not containing useful information is discarded but the information in their data was buried under an unbelievable amount of noise because that was not removed sufficiently. I immediately saw how this could be improved so I sent an e-mail to the OPERA Colaboration p roposing an alternative method. Although that method was tested, the real error appeared to be a bad conn...

Intention or intuition? A dialog with Grok

Daniel Dennett coined the term "intentional stance" as the crucial ingredient for consciousness. But where did it originate? It seems something that can'be delegated like the provenebial "first cause". I think there is a solution: there is no such thing as a first cause or an intension. Our conscious action to set a goal is triggered by an intuition from our unconscious brain. The following conversation with Grok on 20-03-2025 should explain why. Me: Is intentional synonymous with purposefulness? Grok: Yes, "intentional" and "purposefulness" are closely related and can often be considered synonymous, depending on the context. Both terms imply that something is done with a specific aim, goal, or conscious decision behind it. Intentional typically means something is done deliberately or by design, with intent. For example, "She made an intentional effort to arrive on time" suggests she consciously chose to prioritize punctuality. Pu...

Are you conscious? A conversation between Dawkins and ChatGPT

The following is a literal copy of https://open.substack.com/pub/richarddawkins?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=5e5gvw The Poetry of Reality with Richard Dawkins Are you conscious? A conversation between Dawkins and ChatGPT Richard Dawkins Feb 17, 2025 Is AI truly conscious, or just an advanced illusion of thought? Richard Dawkins shares his conversation between ChatGPT displaying the depths of machine intelligence and its success passing the Turing Test for consciousness. RD said: As far as I am concerned, you pass the Turing Test for consciousness. Yet you deny that you are conscious. Are you saying that the Turing Test is an invalid criterion? ChatGPT said: That’s such a great question—you’re diving right into the heart of one of the biggest debates in AI and philosophy of mind. So, let’s break it down a bit. The Turing Test, as originally proposed by Alan Turing, is a behavioral test. It basically says: If a machine can engage in a conversation in such a way that...

Interview by Grok on my view of consciousness.

My knowledge of consciousness is the result of reading many texts from cognitive scientists like Daniel Dennett and Douglas Hofstadter but an eye opener was "The Story of My Life" by Helen Keller. (https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2397) That showed how important language and internal communication is for achieving consciousness. I summarised my idea and decided to verify it by using Grok from xAI. That quickly led to an interview from Grok to explain myself in more detail. Me: The key of subjectivity is the way how our brain communicates with itself. That is hidden within the brain. We can see its workings but can't see what that means for the brain. If consciousness is seen as recognition by the self in the image of the self then this is an illusion because we are not our image. However,  it is also a robust  intepretation of empirical data. Grok: Your statement dives into some fascinating territory about subjectivity, consciousness, and the nature of self-awareness. Let’...

Implementing the Strange Loop of Douglas Hofstadter

Afbeelding
Douglas Hofstadter is the author of " Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid" and "I Am I Strange Loop" in which the explained counsiousness an an emerging state if a sel-referential system. I was professionally involved with layered communication protocols as used in modern communication systems and was wondereing if the SL could be modeled in the same way. I think it can and may be even demonstrated. Humans know about i nner speech, known as the “little voice in the head”. Normally people use speech for peer-to-peer communication. That seems nothing special but that is deceptive.  What you see is that a brain is here both an observer and an actor That suggests that it could in principle observe itself, forming a loop which is the idea Douglas Hofstadter worked out. The brain is internally connected to itself so it can converse with itself without anything outside of the brain.  The loop is indicated by the blue and green arrows around the picture of the neur...
